1. Who we are

This website is operated by the University of Malta Faculty of Theology, which is the data controller for any personal data processed through this site.

Faculty of Theology, University of Malta, Msida MSD 2080, Malta

2. What personal data we collect

Theology Malta is designed to keep data collection to a minimum.

  • Course favourites: When you click the heart icon on a course card, your browser stores the course ID in localStorage on your device. This is not sent to our servers and is not personal data by itself.
  • Call-back requests: The “Request a call” form is currently disabled. When active, it would collect your first name, surname and phone number only with your consent, in order to contact you about theology courses.
  • Technical data: Standard server logs may include your IP address, browser type, requested pages and time of access. These logs are used for security and troubleshooting only.

3. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

We process data only where EU law allows us to:

  • Consent: Call-back requests and any optional marketing sign-ups rely on your clear consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Legitimate interest: Technical logs and security monitoring are necessary to keep the site safe and available.
  • Contract / legal obligation: Where processing is needed to respond to your enquiry or comply with Maltese or EU law.

4. Cookies and local storage

This site does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The only browser storage used is localStorage to remember your saved courses. This stays on your device and is not shared with us or third parties.

Embedded YouTube videos and links to social media or the University of Malta may set their own cookies when you interact with them. Those services have their own privacy policies.

5. Third-party services and external links

The site links to external resources to help you find official course information:

  • University of Malta: Course links direct you to um.edu.mt. Please review the University’s privacy notice for those pages.
  • YouTube: Embedded videos are loaded from YouTube and may collect viewing data under Google’s privacy policy.
  • WhatsApp: Chat buttons open WhatsApp. Meta’s privacy policy applies once you leave this site.
  • Social media: Links to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter/X are provided for convenience. Those platforms process data under their own policies.

6. How long we keep data

Saved course favourites remain only in your browser until you clear them. Call-back requests, if the feature is re-enabled, are kept for up to 24 months or until you ask us to delete them, whichever is sooner. Technical server logs are kept for a short period for security purposes and then deleted.

7. Your rights under GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to access the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Right to restrict or object to processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time
  • Right to lodge a complaint with the Malta Information and Data Protection Commissioner

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in Section 1.

8. Security

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data processed through this site. However, no internet transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be published on this page with the date of the last update.
